Back to school and complaining 101!

Hi there,

I am not sure what you all feel like, but I feel frazzled.  It's t -7 days until my students arrive, and my schedule was changed. I will be teaching a few new classes, and so I feel nervous, and in a time crunch to prepare.  I know I will get it together in time, but these kinds of changes can really impact one's Teacher Peace!

Ok enough 'complaining' from me!

Which brings me to the topic of 'complaining'.  Standing around and chatting in complaing mode never really ends up feeling good (for me). Instead of feeling relieved, I end up feeling more stressed and NOT good at all.  In order to stay positive and peaceful, I think it's important to NOT go down into the vortex of negativity that can sometimes happen in so many teacher conversations.  IT's so easy to do in a school environment.

If you find yourself in a negative vortex conversation, just excuse yourself.

One trick I use (to take me out of the negative vortex thinking) is to remember why I teach.  Ask  yourself, why am I here, why do I teach?  Think of a time when a student thanked you for helping him or her believe in themselves.  Think of that time when the light bulb turned on. When you were the reason for another human to laugh, smile or thank you.  Teaching is an honorable position, and profession!

You're amazing, you decided to teach for a reason.  Remember it, and let that be the fuel that keeps you going.

Good luck to you all, and as I write this, I am thanking myself too!
